Electrica Drill and Driver
A redefinition of the conventional hand drill and driver subtractive of masculine conventions that plague common electric tools. It was built from user interviews and communicates a uniquely distinctive premium experience for an extreme user.

Power tools are common within modern living, to assemble furniture assist in home DIY or fixing issues caused by existing products. Despite this their visual design still captures the essence of masculine idealism and a rugged work environment. This is where the Electrica Concept aims to diverge by completely redesigning the drill from the ground to meet the seemingly extreme user, the at home user.
A key function of the Electrica drill is the form factor, the elongated nature allows a user to maintain their hand in a neutral position with the upper torso of the body being employed to apply basic torque. Additionally, the front interface contains modules, such as a particle guard, LED, bit storage and magnet to adapt the Electrica drill to at home tasks. The USB-C charging function results in a reduction in battery storage as per other tool eco-systems.
The Established Power Tool Narrative
Within the space of power tools there is an established visual language present, which relates to masculine forms, overt branding, harsh product silhouettes and proprietary battery ecosystems. What would it look like to break these existing narratives with drill/driver?

Manufacturing the Electrica Drill
Every detail of the Electrica drill has been carefully considered and this starts with the packaging. A beautiful brown box is the primary method to communicate the internally housed drill. This also acts as a boundary object transitioning a user from conventional power tools to the new Electrica experience. A cellular foam negative contains the product with the primary function of holding the drill at its tightest point.
